Thought Partners' Sustainability Protocols

Recycling and waste reduction:

  • We recycle Types 1 and 2 plastics,  cans and bottles (all washed/clean) in the recycling bin in our kitchen.
  • We recycle single-sided printed paper from our photocopier/fax and printers in our HP laser printer (providing it is not confidential).
  • We recycle paper which has already been printed on both sides (provided it is not confidential),  and cardboard in our paper and cardboard recycling bin, as well as empty tissue boxes (Plastic removed), used post-it notes etc.
  • We shred confidential papers and dispose of this waste in the paper and cardboard recycling bin.
  • We keep our coffee grounds, used tea bags and fruit peelings for one of our team members to take home to her worm farm.
  • The cleaners keep the used paper hand towels from the WC's for our team member to take home to her worm farm.
  • Plastic containers that cannot be recycled plus other useful items (ribbon, coloured card, polystyrene) are collected and sent to Vincents Art Workshop.
  • Paper products from the previous companies (prior to the merger), excess furniture and fittings have all been donated to either Vincents Art Workshop, Refugee and Migrant Services or the Mary Potter Hospice shop.
  • Surplus computer equipment (owned - not leased) has been sent to Remarkit Solutions for re-use.
  • All workshop materials are printed double sided, where applicable, and we collect any unused materials to bring back to the office for re-use or shredding.

Energy efficiency:

  • Each of the 3 meeting rooms, the kitchen, the storage room, the "make-up" room and the toilet areas have their own independent switching for lighting - we only turn them on when required.
  • The three work areas of the tenancy have their own independent switching for lighting also - we only turn on what is required after-hours.
  • EECA "better off" stickers have been attached to all light switches in the tenancy.
  • We encourage people to turn off their PC screens overnight when they require their computer to be left on for remote access - otherwise we recommend switching off and shutting down entirely.

Healthy products, healthy food and healthy people:

  • We use Eco-store dishwashing liquid, dishwashing powder, rinse-aid and spray cleaner
  • We do not use paper cups or plates, nor plastic cutlery
  • We have a water cooler, but do not use plastic cups.   If a person prefers a water container rather than a glass we encourage using a stainless or re-usable flask/bottle
  • We purchase a large bowl of fruit for our team table at the beginning of each week and top it up during the week if required
  • We encourage our team to eat healthy food and when catering for functions/events we go for the healthy/light options
  • We provide each team member with a $1,000 per annum payment (pro-rated if not a full-timer, paid bi-annually, less PAYE) to assist in their wellbeing. This can be used for gym membership, massage, walking shoes etc
  • Working Wise are brought in to the company on a regular basis to check the desk, chair and PC set-up for our team - to meet OSH requirements
  • A fully stocked emergency preparedness kit is on site.  This includes food, water, medical supplies, emergency blankets, torches, radios.  We have also provided storage for personal emergency kits - to include sturdy walking shoes, warm jacket, blankets or sleeping bags and a personalised emergency backpack.
